Tips on Booking High-Level (and Celebrity) Creators
by Angela Fisher | Navigating the Creator Economy Blog
I want a high-level creator or celebrity for my…
✅ Brand
✅ Startup
✅ Non-profit
✅ Etc, etc.
I’ve worked with countless high-level creators and celebrities, and when I receive this question, my usual response is to ask, ‘What’s your budget?
And that’s when I start to hear what’s called “champagne wishes and caviar dreams” (RIP Robin Leach). I have nothing against going for it – everyone should try or the answer will always be no…but having a strategy is helpful.
I have made incredible things happen for many organizations with little to work with, and for others that have the appropriate budget for the target high-level creator or celebrity that gets thousands of requests per day.
Here are few things to think about in either scenario.
👉 Mission Alignment: It’s already clear what’s in it for you, but what’s in it for the them?
Connect how your project aligns with their ‘why,’ or a personal mission. A substantial budget can be a compelling incentive, however mission alignment and your timing can be just as persuasive. You should be able to answer their “why” as well as yours. Of course, if you have a large budget then maybe their “why” is already answered, however…
👉 Even if you have cash, your campaign, etc. has to make sense for the high-level creator or celebrity.
The high-level creator or celebrity cares about her/his/their brand too so if the campaign or your brand association could have a negative effect on the their brand, the response could be a pass regardless of $$.
👉 Make your campaign, project, idea, whatever-it-is, as easy to understand as possible.
If your pitch is too complex it could be DOA and it will never get seen. High-level creators or celebrities typically have a team managing their collaborations and sifting through numerous offers. Clarity in your email subject line and proposal will make your request stand out.
Overall, pursuing the route of high-level talent requires time, patience, and funds. The more popular the task, the more selective they are about their projects. This is why it’s important to make your ask clear and mission-aligned. By doing so, your request at least gets on their radar
